Is the Work Place Sabotaging Your Fitness Goals?

Do you think a company would hire someone that has health problems, low energy, brain fog, lack of motivation with low productivity? I don’t think so. So why on earth, would they put snacks like candy, dough nuts and bagels out nearly every day for their workers?  

We are starting to see a very common theme around here, work companies “treating” their employees with junk food. And this is just a small community we deal with, we know this is something that is taking place all over the globe. People are trying hard, really hard, to eat healthy and exercise 3-5x per week.  Or maybe they’re just trying to make healthier eating choices. But, sadly, they are still not seeing the results they want.

The problem?  The bottom line is its gonna take will power to stay away from those tempting unhealthy free-bees.  But we can see, the company has lack of knowledge about nutrition.  We see they mean to show appreciation to their employees by spoiling them with goodies such as cookies and doughnuts.  They think it’ll get people to work more efficiently if they feel taken care of… but in fact, those junk foods causes the exact opposite.  High sugared coffees + high sugared carbohydrate items = MAJOR ENERGY CRASH.  And that could last one to three hours of a zombie like-sugar coma.  Thus, making employees LESS productive in the office.

It is just mind blowing for us to hear about all these big company’s providing fattening food like pizza or chic-fil-a. Groups of co-workers are going out to fast food dives daily. This isn’t just an occasional treat. No, this is happening EVERYDAY. We know this happens because of our client’s claims during goal sessions or in nutrition guidance conversations.

“I eat good at home, its work that kills me. They order this and bring that in”.

 We totally understand how difficult it is to stay away from those delicious treats, when they are right in front of your face and FOR FREE!! We truly do, that’s why rarely keep anything like that in our house. If it’s there, we will eat it. Those types of food are designed to make your brain crave them. Your brain truly has the same reaction to these treats as a drug addict’s brain reacts to drugs.  Crazy Right!

We can’t understand why a company wouldn’t want happy, healthy, employees. An extra perk, Why they could decrease their medical insurance expenses by making better food catering choices. Us humans are NOT meant to snack all day long, let alone consume high amounts of carbohydrates like croissants and doughnuts. Its unnecessary to eat 6 or 7x per day. When people take in those high glycemic carbohydrates, insulin spikes (energy is stored as fat), then 1 or 2 hours later they are starving… again.  What do they eat again—more carbohydrates. Now people are fat and hungry! If these companies wanted to treat their employees, why not bring in some food that will benefit them, not make them sick?

So, what can we do? First of all, we are here to help. We understand not all companies are on board with health seminars and providing healthy food options. So, what can YOU do? Pack your own lunch. Instead of going out and eating fast food every day, or eating those sugary snacks around the office, that are sabotaging your “gainz”.  Instead, you can have a healthy lunch and consume it peacefully, knowing exactly what went into it. Not only, will you feel so much better, but your bank account will also thank you. As far as all that junk hanging around the office, that is going to be just pure will power. It will be extremely difficult to turn those down at first, but every time you make the decision not to eat one of those doughnuts, it gets a little easier. Over time you’ll get to the point where you don’t even have to think about it. Stay focused, you can beat the system. You owe it to yourself and your family to make good decisions so you can live a long, happy, and healthy life.
